Happy New Year! What a perfect time to finally get started on my photography blog!
For those of you who have been following me over the years, you know of my old blog on blogspot. Prepare for some throwback pictures as I continue, but I want to start the New Year and new website with some fresh photos. What better place to start than with someone who is all about "new."
Jake has been on a journey toward his true self for just over a year and has hired me to document the transition. As a friend, it has been incredible to watch him become the person he knows he is. As a photographer, it has been almost as amazing to see how much more comfortable he's become in front of the camera. He was perfectly at ease during his most recent photo shoot. The comfort and easy smiles come from truly feeling good about yourself. It is also a testament to getting to know and work well with your photographer. Great photos come from both knowing you look good and trusting your photographer. During our first portrait session I enlisted tons of help to pry out a few grins - the best photos came from the way he looks at his lovely wife, Kim. If you want a glimpse of unabashed adoration, just take note of how he looks at her.
I also appreciate the opportunity to photograph the same family more than once. It gives me time to work on posing, lighting, and also get to know them and what makes them comfortable. My goal for his final shoot is to once more get Kim in the pictures, and maybe even the two dogs who have been making progress on their own New Year's Resolution in doggie obedience lessons.
Happy New Year to all! My resolution will be to showcase more new event photography and portrait sessions here. I'd love to hear your resolutions or feedback in the comments.
